BLACK PIG ALENTEJO DISTILLERY® is a Portuguese brand born from a profound connection to the Alentejo, its land, its landscape and a way of life that respects both time and nature. Among the montado, cork oaks and holm oaks, the fields stretching towards the Atlantic and the wild aromas of the Alentejo Coast, BLACK PIG ALENTEJO DISTILLERY® finds the inspiration to create spirits with a genuinely Portuguese identity. Its story began with the passion of its founder, Miguel Ângelo Nunes, for the Alentejo and for the remarkable balance of its ecosystem, shaped by cork, animals, plants, beaches and open countryside. In 2007, strawberry trees began to be planted along the Alentejo Coast and, in 2018, the Black Pig Distillery was established in Santo André, created to transform the flavours and aromas of this region into distinctive expressions of gin, rum and medronho spirit. Here, production retains a strong artisanal character. Organic botanicals are hand picked in the orchards, wild ingredients are gathered from nature and distillation takes place in a handcrafted copper still, bringing a contemporary interpretation to knowledge and traditions passed down through generations. After distillation, the botanicals return to the land as fertiliser or are used as animal feed, completing a cycle in which nature gives, transforms and receives once again. Alentejo lemon, dune juniper, wild lavender and other essences of the region give character to spirits that seek to preserve, within each bottle, the sensory memory of the Alentejo, the paths through the montado, the fragrance of its plants, the salty breeze, the dunes and the closeness of the sea. Even the name pays tribute to the landscape from which the brand was born, evoking the black Iberian pig, an inseparable presence in the montado and an integral part of the balance of this Mediterranean ecosystem. More than producing spirits, the Portuguese brand BLACK PIG ALENTEJO DISTILLERY® expresses a vision of Portugal shaped by authenticity, artisanal knowledge, respect for nature and pride in its origins. It is the Alentejo transformed into aroma and flavour, a Portuguese brand that carries with it the identity of a land where the horizon seems endless and where every creation tells, in its own way, a story that is profoundly ours.
