The Portuguese brand SIDRA ARTESANAL ALFA® was created in 2017 by two entrepreneurs from Carrazeda de Ansiães, seeing that apples without the ideal size for the markets are subject to great waste, they decide to join synergies and, after several studies and experiences, move forward with the production of new products 100% apple. Apples from the orchards of Carrazeda de Ansiães are a high quality due to their own microclimate conditions. Due to good organizational practices and existing care and hygiene, they obtained a «GlobalGap». After conducting several studies and experiments with second harvest apples, decided to produce 100% apple cider and other products. In the production of the cider and sparkling wine of the brand SIDRA ARTESANAL ALFA®, diverse types of Carrazeda de Ansiães apples was used, after being squeezed, the juice of the apples is only fermented. SIDRA ARTESANAL ALFA® does not contain sugars, coloring, flavoring or gluten. The sparkling cider is made using a proper method, with a second fermentation in the bottle. In 2021, first in October, at the “XI Salon Internacional de les Sidres de Gala”, in Xixon – Asturias, and in November at the “Forum Sagardo – III International Cider Competition” in Donostia – San Sebastian, it won two silver medals. The brand SIDRA ARTESANAL ALFA® has received helpful reviews from experts at national and international level in cider, and every day it gains more appreciators of its products. For the brand SIDRA ARTESANAL ALFA®, the main objective is to take advantage of all the residues that arise from cider production and to look for new proposals to continue obtaining food products. Currently, with residues generated by cider production, they are used as animal feed for rabbits and swine in the local economy. The production of the brand SIDRA ARTESANAL ALFA® shows that Trás-os-Montes has high quality raw material for the national production of cider, a drink with ancient traditions but new to the Portuguese palate. The brand SIDRA ARTESANAL ALFA® is 100% apple. The brand SIDRA ARTESANAL ALFA® produces cider according to tradition, without adding any other product, including sugar or water.
