BRAND SHARISH GIN®

Started in October 2013, SHARISH GIN® is a Portuguese brand of gin and is produced in Alentejo by António Cuco. The SHARISH GIN® brand takes its name from the Portuguese village of Monsaraz. Used during the Muslim occupation, the Arabic term “sharish” means xara or jara and refers to the very alentejana ceva (Cistus ladanifer). Thus ‘Mont Sharish’ would mean a hill erected in an impenetrable barley of barns, later originating Monsaraz. This gin is part of a recipe filled with Portuguese ingredients, from the Bravo de Esmolfe DOP apple to the oranges and lemons of the Alentejo, along with the fresh lime and the traditional juniper and coriander seeds are added, cloves and a soft touch of vanilla. All these ingredients are distilled separately in a traditional Portuguese still and then subjected to a final blend. The idea of producing the SHARISH GIN® came from a challenge from friends and the distiller taste in having unique things. So until the SHARISH GIN® recipe came along, it was several weeks spent on research. Next was the choice of botanists, where lime is the distiller’s favorite aromatic plant and the Bravo de Esmolfe DOP apple is the fruit of choice. The choice of name and logo is due to the passion for Monsaraz, one of the most beautiful places in Portugal. The shape of the bottle fits perfectly into the Monsaraz silhouette chosen for the logo. Nothing has been left to chance in this production, everything has a reason for being, and the main one is the passion of gin linked to socializing with friends. As they say in the Alentejo, “may it profit you”. Sharish!
