BRAND DANCERS BY GEORGIA®
The world is changing and it is urgent to be part of this change. Fashion must play a crucial role in this transformation, reducing its impact on the planet. It is urgent to consume less and better. It was based on this premise that the Portuguese brand DANCERS BY GEORGIA® decided to bet on circular fashion. DANCERS BY GEORGIA® is today an urban, inclusive fashion brand, adapted to the modern lifestyle, for women and men who like unique pieces, made 100% with second-hand or vintage clothing, chosen one by one by Georgia, and transformed in its atelier. Did you know that around 130 billion pieces of fast fashion clothing are produced every year? This way of producing is a real socio-environmental disaster. Furthermore, according to a UN report, global clothing production doubled between 2000 and 2014 and the manufacture of clothing and footwear accounts for 8% of global greenhouse gases. Overproduction and disposable fashion are a thing of the past. The future goes through sustainable fashion, through recycling and recovery. The brand DANCERS BY GEORGIA® wants to do its part and that’s why it joined upcycling. The term upcycling is not new. It was first used in 1994 by Reiner Pilz to describe a method “where old products are given more value, not less”. Applied to fashion, it means transforming unwanted materials, items or pieces into clothing and accessories of greater value. The brand DANCERS BY GEORGIA® chose this way of producing because it believes it is the most sustainable, ecological and in line with its values and creative method. The stylist for DANCERS BY GEORGIA®, Georgia, searches for, buys and collects second-hand and vintage clothing. From these pieces, she imagines new cuts, which she designs later in the studio with the seamstress brand. That’s where the magic happens and together they deconstruct to rebuild a new, more current piece. Unisex, exclusive, original and versatile pieces, designed for all types of bodies, which stand out for being handmade.
